Raptor kitty, 24 hours post-op
|
(Apologies for the poor quality. There seem to be issues with my digital camera's video option, particularly in low light. The noise you hear seems to coincide with the camera trying to focus, which we could not hear at all while recording.) On Sunday, 11/27/11, we adopted a 2nd kitty named Raptor. About an hour after we got him home, we noticed he was having major health issues. It appeared he was trying to hack up a hairball without anything coming out. He was coughing or gagging, vomiting, and having difficulty breathing so we took him to the ER vet.A chest x-ray indicated that his lungs & heart were clear, but the gas pattern in his intestines was suggestive of foreign body obstruction. After much conversation with the ER vet, we opted to wait and call our normal vet in the morning. The ER vet also thought he had an upper respiratory infection, so she gave him a shot of antibiotics, an antiemtic to keep him from vomiting, and some subcutaneous fluids. The following day, I called my regular vet who is a new vet to me as my other kitty, Smudge, has only been with us for 3 months & to the vet twice for a yeast infection in his ears. The vet's office suggest I wait until the following day to see if he would continue to improve & perhaps have a bowel movement. Unfortunately, Raptor did not have a BM. After a very long day at the vet (from 2:50 pm until nearly 2 in the morning), Raptor had emergency surgery. No obstruction was found, however the vet stated he has plaques on his intestines, a very thick linea alba which is indicative of inflammation, and dilated vessels going to his intestines (Vasodilation). The vet seems to think he has FIP (Feline infectious peritonitis). That's frightening because Raptor & Smudge hit it off & were interacting. However, it could also be Feline Lymphoma. If those are my only 2 choices, I hope it's the Lymphoma because at least it is treatable and offers Raptor a better chance of survival. It also means Smudge is in the clear. It's a very long story, but this is about as short as I can get it here. This video is Raptor the night after surgery. What a cute trooper! =)
